Many people email me and ask me about how to ideally add keywords to their website or blog content. People know that they should not do keyword spam because that strategy will get them penalized. But at the same time people also know that they must add at least some number of keywords within their content in order for their website or blog content to have a chance to rank in Google for those keywords. In this tutorial I discuss the right keyword density for content or blog posts to help you rank in search and avoid Google’s keyword spam penalty.

The first thing you must do is add at least one occurrence of your keyword to your title meta tag, and at least one or two occurrences of your keywords in your description meta tag. You should also have the main keyword in the H1 HTML tag of your page’s title.

In the body of your content, you should aim for a 3-7% keyword density of your main keywords, and about a 2% keyword density for your long tail keywords. If you have the need to use your main keyword more frequently, you may use other words with the same meaning. That will help you rank for those terms as well in addition to avoiding looking suspicious in Google algorithm’s eyes.
